YES. IT’S A MOVIE – CANADIAN TOUR RECAP

By:

YES. It’s a Movie hits Canada, from West to East. We started in Vancouver a day after my birthday; Vancouver is our backyard so we sure were pumped. PD Watt, Pascal Gallant, Justin, Mikey Pederson, Helen Schettini and I made it to the first Canadian premiere. We gave away a board for the longest jump and invited the crew at the Cellar, thanks to Lauren and Redbull, we partied pretty hard, happy birthday to me! My last drink was a martini espresso at 6 am. It got everyone wishing the snow would come soon!

Then we flew across the country to Montreal, where I met Benji Ritchie, Frank April and Guillaume Brochu, our Canadian YES distributor. We met at South Park with EMPIRE sports marketing director Ryan Odowd and skater Eric Mercier. We had a little pre-movie skate session at the backyard jam ramp…wow, nice set up…thanks for the invite! The night went as followed; My dad, all my friends from Montreal and the snowboard industry on the East Coast met up at L’écurie for a GLOBE appetizer and cocktail hour, followed by the movie and vodka Redbulls… party provided by RedBull and Empire. Thanks boys! It was all time, great humans, great monkeys, Bon Chevaux à l’Écurie . The poutine at 4 am was so QUEBEC, back to my roots!

The following day, we drove to Trois Riviere for the next event and met up with Axis, Atlas, Bauch’s Empire and Universe. Meet and greet, check out the shops. Man boys, nice shop by the way! We got to T-R and got skunked a bit…. A few douche bags sucker punched the TABARNAC crew and kicked them out …But we kept it real with the REPIGNY guys! Fun times!

I had to leave the crew the next morning but I kept in touch through texts messages. Benji, Frank and the boys went down to Quebec City for some more partying. DLX pre-party then mayhem with the TABARNAC crew at the bar La Ptite Grenouille. I got crazy messages the next morning about vodka and cute girls. 3 down, one to go. The guys went to Chicoutimi next, where Homie’s Shop had a gnarly parking party, with mini ramp, snowboard jam, outdoor screening for YES. It’s a Movie and tons people, followed by another endless party night. Good job guys for holding it down!

Thanks to everyone, that was a hell of trip with the best friends in Québec, and YES, we like to party!

ART SHOW WITH YES’S MAIN MAN DUSTIN ORTIZ

By:

If there was a Boy Scouts for latchkey kids, one of the first merit badges earned would be that of surviving the wilderness that is the pantry of a lower middle class family. Once you can put a meal together for yourself, the process of being home alone for a good part of the week seems less a handicap and more a great opportunity to explore the limits of your prepubescent ingenuity.

Dustin Ortiz, Jonathan and Jared Mattson had such an upbringing. Born and raised in Encinitas, surrounded by the creative melting pot of the surf and skateboard communities, Dustin and the Mattson’s have been using the tools at their disposal to create for the better part of their lives. They have chosen the name, “Top Ramen Nachos” for their first show together as a symbol of the unique and satisfying combinations that can manifest when one is left their own devices in a world where the circumstances are not ideal.
